windows upgrades cause problem with wireless connection

I have an inspiron 6400 with Vista business. My wireless connection was working well until one of the automatic updates resulted in me not being able to connect to the router without a cable meaning that I cannot use the computer except when at my desk. It now also picks up two networks with the same name one of which has only local access. The latter is the one it seems to pick up first so that I have to go into network connections and pick the one with internet access. Sometimes it then drops back to local only. I have spoken to Netgear who tell me that there is nothing wrong with the router and the problem is caused by microsoft. Microsoft say that they cannot help as vista was installled by Dell. Dell want to charge me £39 to talk to me about it. I find this unacceptable. Has anyone else found a solution to this problem? Delamere

Since Dell doesn't change anything in Windows there really isn't much we can do in this particular case.  Have you uninstalled the update that caused the problem?  That is usually teh solution to these kinds of problems while waiting for an updated update to be released by MS.
