Dear all,

The only driver containing the exact reference DEV_8168&SUBSYS_04EE1028&REV_06 can be found on the realtek's site: www.realtek.com.tw/.../downloadsView.aspx

where we can find the 5.806 version of the driver for the network interface on VOSTRO260

I thought it was not working, but probably I did not uninstall properly previous tentative versions.

So be sure to uninstall completely any previous driver for the interface (I suppose it is always the case, but I am not very used to driver installation)

Hope this will eventually help someone...

Hi Ch. Waterkeyn,

I have found the link below from the Realtek manufacturers website for drivers:

 http://bit.ly/3XGIA0

Click on the above link and install the drivers under Windows XP.

Note:  These 3rd party links are exclusively my suggestions based on the personal research and experience. Usages of these links are purely based on customer’s discretion.
Dell recommended software/updates/developments will be available only on the Dell websites after an official research and approval.

Please let me know if you have any other queries.

Try downloading this driver for XP Ethernet

Thank you Rajesh R. for your attention, but sorry, this driver is not for DEV_8168&SUBSYS_04EE1028&REV_06, which is on my Vostro260

What annoyes me is the fact that I found at Realtek a windows XP driver for DEV_8168&SUBSYS_04EE1028&REV_06, but there, although it finds the interface, it is not able to start it.

So, what is the problem with the Ethernet interface on Vostro260 operating WXP?

For comparison, I had also to find a WXP driver for the Ethernet interface on the Vostro230, and there it worked...

Thank you again, but the question remains open!

Thank you VeejDeej, it is not working either, but I have an answer, posted next to my first question.

This did not work for me.  The realtek website links go to an FTP download that forces me to enter a username and password.  I tried anonymous but that didn't work.  I finally found another manufacturer that allows you to run XP with this lan.  https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_drivers/c4etn12us17.exe

If the link is broken it is the ThinkCentre M78 xp driver.  I have verified that it works.  This after struggling for 2 days while juggling other tasks.  Thanks dell for making life easier on your customers.
