windows XP SP2
Dear All,
I have a DIMENSION 8100 with windows XP PRO, I have installed service pack 2 and disappeared the modem.
I have removed the SP2 but the modem didn’t reappear, then I have formatted the H.D. and installed the operating system with SP1 and all it is returned to work.
Someone has had the same problem? How it has been resolved? You can help me.

Right click on my computer--properties--hardware--device manage--see if modem has yellow question mark beside it,if it does i believe you have to use your resource Cd to fix ,I would send e-mail to Dell to verify this.

The problem is that the modem doesn’t appear on properties-hardware and I wasn’t able to find it or to install it manually. But did you successful install the SP2 on a DIMENSION 8100 without problems?

Did you look in control panel--phone and modems--modem,you can find what modem is on your system by, start--all
programs--accesssories--system tools--system information--components--modem -- this will tell you what modem
and all specs. As far as SP2 after install I had problems with msn messanger, vidio player, and hang ups,I had to do a
repair then reinstall SP2 so far ,it seems to be working better every day.
Hope I have helped you.
