I tried installing high speed internet connection software and when I get to the final step network connection message pops up and say there is minimum or limited connectivity. I tried installing the program several times and still no luck. I hope somebody could pitch in and give some ideas to resolve this issue.
When you reformat your hard drive using another operating system CD, you delete certain hardware drivers. Go into your " Device Manager " and expand all hardware devices? How many devices have a yellow exclamation(!), or question mark(?) next to them?
Same with me and i have wireless it was working before i reformatted and now it says limited or no connectivity and it sends packets but does not recieve.
In the device manager there is no exclamation mark or question mark. All the firewalls and antiviruses are disabled. I tried connecting with the router cable and no hope. When I use dial up I can get the connetion but when I try to use DSL I could not establish connection. Do I need to
install Win Me back instead of Win Xp to see if the it works?
Okay, this info helps a little more...cable or DSL connections are established thru a network connection. Dial-up thru your data / fax modem.
Open up an Internet Explorer window, and select Tools from the top tool bar>Internet Options>Connections...in the Dial-up and VPN settings section you need it to say "Never dial a connection". Click "LAN settings" check the box next to "Automatically detect settings". Click the Okay button on all the windows back down to the Internet Explorer window. Restart computer...
Upon return, do you know how to access the CLI "command prompt"?Oops! I guess I should first check to see if you re-established an internet network connection. Did you?
While I can empathize with the frustration your experiencing at not having a fully functional computer system (having been there myself), I'd like to point out that you entered this forum basically saying "same with me" to the entry of rtt78. Therefore, would it be correct for me to assume that you also own a DIM 8100 system recently upgrading the OS from WinME to WinXP? Also, have you too, upgraded the RAM memory as rtt78 has?
Please, understand? these forums are users(like yourself), helping users(like yourself) to try and rectify problems that they're experiencing with their computer systems and peripherals...
While I don't mind providing you with assistance, my guess would be that I'm actually trying to troubleshoot two different computer systems under two different circumstances...

Again, I'm going to assume that when you both upgraded your operating systems you did a clean install (formatted the hard drive?), or did you just install XP over ME?
Okay, DIM 4700 is the same system I have...Can you get into your router's web-based utility and see if your DIM 4700's network name and ip address registers on your router? What brand name router do you own?

Disable the Windows firewall and any other third party firewalls (Norton Internet Security, McAffee, etc.)
If your internet connection is re-established, then you can go back and reconfigure one firewall to function on your network...

Have you already tried connecting your computer to your router by network cable?(hardwire)
Do you have a connection to the internet, that way?
