Winsock Problem

Question

My brother has a Dimension 3000 with Windows Xp.  He has not been able to connect to the internet recently.  The diagnosis says: unable to verify Winsock base providers: 2   I have not been able to find anything that would help with this.  Any one have any ideas??   Thanks

Is that the exact text of the error message or is it a translation form another language.  If it is exact, it is a very unusual error as a search results in 0 hits.    You might want to try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here and if that doesn't work try lspfix from Here.   Steve
