wired ethernet versus WLAN on a alienware aurora pc

hi, i will be getting an alienware aurora pc from dell in the near future - combination of xmas gift and a birthday present:) the build i had been looking at a while back included a wired ethernet card similar to what i have now in my dell dimension 8300 dinosaur. the build that i'm getting and was put together for me has a "1505 PCIe WLAN card with 11n mini-card & external antenna" listed instead of the wired ethernet i was expecting. i am unsure on the exact specs of my current ethernet card. my ISP is verizon FIOS.

my question is what the real differences are in terms of performance and reliabilty each has? besides one being wired and the other being wireless. i realize that WLAN often has issues with both interferance and that its signal strength decreases with distance(im about 5 feet away from our wireless router).

short of installing both a wired ethernet and the WLAN card in my new pc and seeing how each fares, is there any way else to compare them?

I do alot of online gaming and need a reliable and steady connection when im playing.

any advice or suggestions are appreciated. thanks in advance.

Hello,

You need a reliable and steady connection and you're only five feet away. Hands down pick is the wired connection every time.

A wired connection will Always beat a wireless connection. the greatest throught put one can get with a wireless is 300mbps on a N network with ideal conditions. A wired connection with the right adapter get 1 gigbps

Plus there is no worry about security breaches with wired like wireless(ie someone hacking into your wireless network.)
