This sounds like an issue with your D-Link card. Reload the drivers and update the firmware on the router. You may wish to contact D-Link directly to gain support for their device.
Oky I figured it out.
I just changed all the settings for the card and it crashed even more frequently with some settings. Especially enabling the powersafemode of the card made it worse.
But I guess I could solve the problem.
I switched all settings back to normal and the system crashed as usual only when there was no net.
Then I disabled the modem which is build in into my Inspiron and now everything works well.
Its not really convinient to go to the hardwaremanager everytime I want to switch from wire to wireless.
Is there a way to do it automaticly that only the modem or only the wireless card are enabled but never both of em?
Thanks
I will contact the D-Link guys and let you know what they said. Maybe it helps other people too.
We have the D-Link DWL-650+, also. Got it at our local Costco packaged with the DI-614+ for $69 (after rebates)… pretty sweet deal, at the time.
But, we’re using it on an I8000 with WinME. My son only uses it when he comes home from college… otherwise he uses the Dial-up modem.
We didn’t have problems with it crashing or shutting down the computer and we don’t have to disable the Dial-up modem. But I had problems (initially) connecting to the DI-614+ router and keeping a connection. Then I remembered a post about using the Boingo software for connection problems with WinXP (don’t remember the exact contents of the post… CRS ), that I read on another forum about a year ago.
Since installing the Boingo software… no problems! I really don’t know if it’ll help you at all, since we don’t use WinXP with it. But here’s the link to the free software download, anyway (”click here).
I don't know if it's a good thing or not to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. But I'm in the same boat, or dingy. I just got my 9100 last week, and when I stick in my D-Link DWL-650+... BAM!!... Blue-screen-o-death... do not pass go, do not collect $200. Like you, this only happens when there is no available wireless AP. The Blue screen says something like IRQL_LESS_THAN_ZERO, and doing a bit of research, it does tend (though not always) to be a driver issue. I haven't checked the D-Link site for updates yet, but I'm definitely planning on it. I'm also going to try your suggestion of disabling the internal modem, but I'd rather not do that.
Another interest thing (sort of off topic) is that my internal modem shipped with back-level 2003 drivers. The Dell site has the current drivers available to download, but being that my system was built less than two weeks ago, you'd think things would be a bit up-to-date. I'm currently downloading these. Oh well. No worries.
I installed the latest D-Link driver yesterday, and it seemed to clear things up. I don't think it was overheating the system though... at least for me... It would shut the system down immediately, never enough time to even get warm.
Not that works with the AirPlus 4x technology. The + products connect at 22mb and use compression techniques to get up to the 44mb range. The third card I got has worked fine.

1) Get the latest D-Link driver.
2) It may be overheating and stopping your computer. I had two do this - D-Link warrantied both.

D-Link said it is a hardware problem and I should send the card to them if there is still warranty. If...
