Wireless 1450 802.11a/b/g mini pci card problems

I have an insprion 5160 with built in wireless 1450 02.11a/b/g mini pca card. I connect to the internet via DSL, using a Speed Touch 570 wireless modem.
Right now my notebook is in a range of 1 meter from my modem, and I have no problem in reaching the internet and staying connected.
however, as soon as I take my notebook to my room downstairs, the internet connection at times is very unstable and breaks off very often. I then get the information that the speed is 1.0 mbps, whereas it should be 11.0 mbps, and that the signal is low or even failing.
On my previous notebook (inspiron 4000) I used a speed touch 110 wireless pc card. I never had any problems connecting to the internet and - more important - staying connected!
Can anybody tell me what could cause this problem.
And if not, can anybody advise my if I can use my speedtouch 110 wireless card, regardless that I already have a built-in wireless card.

Thanks for your reactions.

You can update the drivers for the card and it should take care of the intermittent conneciton and low signal.

If you want, you can definitely use another wireless card on the computer. Just disabled the existing wireless card.
(Device Manager - Click on + next to network adapter - Right click on Dell Wireless entry and disable it)

Thanks for the download tip with respect to driver! It seems that my problem is solved. I've been on line now for more than two hours, without any interruption!
