wireless adapter disappeared

i was in england recently and connected with my wireless adapter to a wireless network. since returning though, the Intel ProSet/Wireless software says "No supported wireless adapters available in the system". I checked under the Device Manager and there I can't find any wireless adapters. I first checked the radio button and it is enabled, so I don't that is the problem. Also I can't use the "intel wireless troubleshooter" because there is no wireless adapter found. How do I restore the wireless adapter and is it truly not on my dell inspiron 600m system?

Try reinstalling the drivers for the wireless card.  You can download them from:

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I was not able to install the Wireless driver because it couldn't find the wireless adapter. I then tried a number of things following the dell support manuals, but these didn't work either. In brief, I verified that an Intel 2200MiniPCI card was shipped with my pc, and that the setup menu indicated that the MiniPCI device said "wireless" and that the MiniPCI status said "enabled" under the "Wireless Configuration" of the Setup menu. Furthermore, reloading the system defaults didn't help. Finally, I tried repositioning the wireless card again with no success.

Any other ideas?

Does the wireless adapter show up in Device Manager?

The only thing that appears under "network adapters" is the "Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller", but I don't think that is a wireless adapter.

If pulling the card out and re-insert it does not make it appear in Device Manager and the driver installation program does not detect the wireless adapter, the only thing I can conclude is that the wireless adapter is fried.

I think that you are probably right. Thanks for your perspective.
