Wireless always connects but only sometimes get internet
I have a Dell Latitude D830 with an Intel ProSet 3945ABG wireless card. I am attempting to use it with my home wireless network. Everytime I turn it on I can successfully "connect" to the wireless network and I also successfully obtain an IP address. However, about 70% of the time I can't actually get to the internet. I cannot ping my wireless router, nor can I ping other internet sites. I have two computers, one TiVo, and one iPod connected to this network with no problems so I know it isn't a problem with the router or anything else upstream.
I can successfully connect occassionally so I know my settings are correct -- I have also double checked them with the other working computers.
I have disabled my wired LAN connection as well as my bluetooth 360 device to no effect.
My wireless network has WEP security and I have encountered a similar problem to this before where I realized I needed to actually type in the security passcode in hex format in order to get it all to work. However, this does not fix my problem.
I have also downloaded and installed the most recent drivers for the Intel ProSet wireless card which didn't solve the problem. I have also checked the system for spyware and viruses, and it seems clean.
Any help would be appreciated.

Which wireless router do you have? Have you upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest available? As a troubleshooting step, have you tried tempoarilyt disabling the WEP encryption to see if it retains a connection without WEP enabled?

I had the same problem with intermittent Internet. I would connect fine but no Internet. I tried connecting at a different frequency (changed from channel 11 to 1) and it solved the problem. It connects much quicker and always has Internet now. I also got rid of my 2.4 MHz phone as this was a cause of interference.
Hope this helps.

I have a D-Link 108G wireless router with a Linksys range extender. I'm reluctant to mess around with the security settings because it took me about 5 hours to get them working together with security enabled. So that may not be worth it -- I may just want to wrestle with the internet for 20 minutes each time. The other two computers work fine so I'm hoping I can change something on this computer to make it work. I have not upgraded the firmware on the router recently although I went through it when I set up the network.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them out and report back.
