Wireless Bridge
Hi there, i have a broadband wireless modem and two desktop PCs. Only one has a PCI wireless network card but both have a PCI wired ethernet card. The one with the wireless card is running windows 2000 and the other is running win 98.
So my question is, how do i go abouts allowing the second machine (win 98 and no wireless card) connect to the internet via the other PC using the wired ethernet ports? (as the wireless router is downstairs and i want to allow the two PCs upstairs to access the internet via the single wireless card). I also understand that a cross over cable may be required. Is this method called a wireless bridge? Could i expand this network to allow more than one pc to access the internet via the single station using a standard wired router/switch? (so my Win 2000 pc with the WLAN card acts as an wireless access point). If necessary both pcs can be setup to run windows 2000, but preferably kept in their current configurations. Thanks for any advice. Steve

You may configure your Win2000 ICS (internet connection sharing) to share internet connection with Win98. Yes, you need a reverse cable if you connect directly from NIC to NIC. If you connect it this way, your Win2000 must be turned on all the time (Win2k acts as a router) or else other machines will not be able to browse the web.
The easiest way is to get a wireless network adapter (USB or PCI) for your Win98 machine. They're very affordable nowadays.
