Wireless card problem with D400.
Hello, the D400 was originally purchased as a refurbished unit with 3-yr warranty, about 4 months old, since the IBM X31 was used by my wife. I then acquired a vanilla Windows XP Pro copy from the school, and installed it on the D400 with all the drivers. The whole thing went smoothly, and I was happy about the purchase, and the unit is same as brand new.
I have been using Linksys WRT54G wireless router as the backbone of my home wireless network for over one year, with one dekstop attached through ethernet, two other desktops through wireless, and a linksys printer server, and with the two laptops as well. All worked great except this D400.
When it powers up, it is usually assigned the right IP, however, whenever it's back from hibernation, the wireless is down for no obvious reason. The ip address shows correctly, but it can't ping the router. If I try to release/renew the ip, then it will show that no connection can be made. The same problem appears when I use it in my office with a business level cisco wireless AP. And I also tried it with a netgear router, exactly same problem. So this problem is not related to any specific router.
I was able to overcome this problem by a little trick: first disable the wirelss, and then re-enable it. But recentely it stops working, and sometimes even when I restart, the wireless won't connect!
Btw, in Dell quickset, the wireless was set as always on. The D400 runs pretty cool, so I guess it's not caused by overheating, plus when it's waked from hibernation, it should be hot anyway.
I installed the latest drivers yesterday hoping that would help, But obviously it didn't, and I already applied the latest firmware to the linksys router, no impove at all.
Please comment. Thank you.
