Wireless Card Problem
I own a Dell inspiron 1720 and can no longer use my wireless card under windows vista. When I turned it on one day I got the following error message "Your Wireless Card is not compatible with wireless band configuration". The IT staff in my college told me the only remedy was to re-install Windows Vista. Is this true?

The IT staff is taking the easy way out (for them) by taking a guess that reinstallation will solve the problem. Shame on them! I hope they are not the IT staff at the University where I work!
Which make and model wireless adatper do you have? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Did you mess with any of the Advanced settings on the wireless adapter in Device Manager?

First, go to the following site and download the latest drivers for the wireless network adapter. Somehow tranfere the downloaded file to the problem computer. Then boot the problem computer into Safe Mode, go into Device Manager, expand the listing for Network Adapters, select the Wireless adapter and uninstall it. Reboot into Safe mode and run the downloaded file to reinstall the drivers for the wireless adapter. Report back whether or not this fixes the problem.

You should have had the option to cancel the New Hardware Wizard.
