Wireless card shuts off while connected to networks
I had posted this in the Inspiron - Network forum with no success... please help
Hello all,
I received my 9400 on Monday and have been putting it through its paces. Everything seems to be working fine except for the wireless card. I can boot the computer, and the card will connect to my (or any) wireless router, and everything is fine. Then after a few minutes (anywhere from 2 to 10) I will lose the connection because the wireless card seems to have deactivated. It isn't because of inactivity of the computer or the connection. This will happen while browsing or especially downloading. I've had the 9400 plugged into AC power, and have changed the power management settings in the driver. I have updated the driver (10.1.0.13 from the Dell site). I have also tried to ditch the Intel connection software and let XP control the connection. The Fn-F2 switch does nothing to power up the card. I cannot even scan for wireless networks. After it turns itself off, I cannot turn it back on unless I reboot the computer.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joshua

Try downloading and installing the drivers from the Intel web site.

There are lots of reports of problems with the Intel wireless network cards. Read through these forums. Are you sure you have power management settings configured to "always" supply maximum power.

I installed the driver/app set from Intel. Got everything set up and connected to the network. I lasted 13 minutes before the card turned off. Once again, I cannot turn it back on unless I reboot the system. Could this be a BIOS issue, or a hardware defect? Are there any reports of this happening to anyone else?
Thanks

The most success I've seen anyone have with problems similar to yours is calling Dell Tech Support and getting them to replace the Intel Card with a Dell card. That always seems to fix the problem.

I had read and searched the forums for any problems similar to mine, but didn't have much luck. I had read about setting the power to max, and I have, going to the adapter settings and into the advanced tab and setting the power management tab to maximum performance. I'm not for certain, but I believe that this happens mostly when I am downloading a file. Do you have any other settings that you think I should adjust?
Thanks

I can't find the number right now. You might want to try the online chat feature.

how interesting I just got my 9400 last friday which was a replacement for my dead 8600 and my wireless card shuts off within 5 to 15 mins also all the time. I can't keep a connection for anything. I know it's not my router b/c that was one of the only things that worked fine on my 8600.
any additional help would be appreciated.

Look at this thread.
I'm still waiting on my new card. I'll give a report when I can.
