I've stuck with usb since its just easier to install and move between desktops...

Range is also highly dependent on your router and the antennas installed/height of your router in the house, etc.

All depends on the model of USB.  It it's nothing more than a thumb drive, I would avoid it.  Linksys makes one that connects via USB, about the size of a deck of cards, with a popup antenna.  It has worked good for some of my folks.

Ideally, I like hardware, PCI cards or PCMCIA cards.

depends well if u have a small home network then I guess u shud be happy with a usb adapter as that will mean that u will not have to open up the desktop tower.

Crack it open.  It will give you an excuse to clean out the cobwebs.

I have used both internal cards and usb adaptors. The usb adaptors give you more flexibility and if there are issues it is easy to disconnect and reconnect. :smileyvery-happy:

Don't know alot about wireless. Do I need a antenna with a wireless card ? I need to set up at work , a auto dealership. We are switching over to a wireless system and I need to upgrade my computer. Opening the tower is no problem. I need a dependable set up.
                                            Thanks for the help

The wireless PCI card for a desktop will have an antenna but you can get some cards that have an extention cable for the antenna that will allow it to sit on top of the desktop.

Key item will be the type of wireless network you will have at work:
wireless B
wireless G
Wireless Draft-N

The item below works with both B and G, has a wire to move it around your desk, and an antenna...

Draft-N has all sorts of options, but best to go with the same vendor as the access point you have...
