Wireless Card

I was given an internal network card for my Inspiron 8200.  I have installed the card but do not know how to tell what I have so I can download the drivers for the card.  All I have is the card in a plastic bag.

can you look on the card itself and see what brand/model it is?

The person that has given me the card was told by the rep at Dell that this is an internal wireless card for an Inspiron 8200.  The card even pops right into the slot just like it was made for it.

if you have XP hopefully this will work: http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R102320.EXE

if it doesn't work, well, you've only lost the time it took to download and try.

It said there was no hardware that would use the driver and the driver would not be loaded, then the install automatically ended.

i'm out of ideas then ...  ask whoever gave it to you either A) for the model of the card or B) for drivers for it

it should, you just need to know what kind of card it is so you can get drivers for it.

i had another idea actually, can you open device manager and see what shows up there?  anything with a yellow question mark by it?

I guess it just is not going to work.

It lists it with the yellow question mark as a Network Controller under Other Devices.  There is no other information.  The manufacturer is unknown.  The Location is "PCI bus 2, device 3, function 0", with no drivers available.

that's good that it's being seen at least -- that means that when you do find the correct drivers, it will install.

here's another though, press F2 when you see the dell screen at startup and see if it lists the model of the mPCI card installed.  it may say unknown or it may be more specific
