Wireless connected - no internet

Hello,  I have an Inspiron 6000 with XP professional and an Intel Pro/wireless 2915ABG network connection.  I also have a desktop computer.  I am using a Netgear WGR614 V6 router to connect both computers to a DSL modem.  The desktop computer is connected to the router via Ethernet and is working good.  The laptop was working good via wireless until I took it on a trip and used the wifi at an airport and a hotel.  When I got home the laptop will connect to the router, but IE7 will not display websites.  Most of the time I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the website".  Once in awhile a website will partially load.

IE7 does work when I connect to the router via Ethernet.  Two other laptops have been able to connect to the router and internet via wireless.

I have tried several things to fix this problem.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless network adapter driver, the Intel Proset wireless software, IE7, and McAfee.  I tried getting on the internet in Safe Mode with networking.  I have tried the following commands:  netsh int ip reset and netsh winsock reset.  So far nothing has worked.

Below is the ipconfig /all result while on the wireless connection.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Open Network Connectins, right click your wireless connection, select properties, then click on the wireless networks tab and remove all other wireless networks except yours.  Reboot and see if you can now connect to web sites.

If you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support, does the internet connection through wireless work?

I removed the other wireless networks and rebooted.  I cannot connect to websites.  I do get a "Website found.  Waiting for reply... " message at the bottom of the screen before the "IE cannot display the webpage".

While in safe mode with networking, sometimes websites will partaily load slowly.  For example, after a couple of minutes yahoo.com loaded everything except some pictures.  Other websites did the same thing.  Some websites would not load at all.

I tried again in regular mode.  I am getting the same result listed above.

I suggest that you make sure you have the latest drivers available for reinstallation.  Then, boot inot Safe Mode, go into Device Manager and uninstall the wireless network adapter.  Reboot into Normal mode, cancel the New Hardware Wizard, if it starts, then run the driver installation file to reinstall the network adapter.   That should remove all traces of the previous driver and hopefully solve the problem.  If not, post back, and we can continure working from there.

have you tried optimizing your IE7?? make sure you clear cache and cookies and reset all the settings to default...  updating drivers for wireless card can also be a factor... last option would be downloading other browsers and see if that will work...

is there any software or program that you installed before this problem happens? aside from using wifi when your away...

I followed your instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter.  It did not solve the problem.

I have tried deleting the cookies, history, temporary files, and cleaned the cache.  I have tried resetting IE7's settings.

Could I be missing an add-on?  I have noticed that when I enable the adobe add-on the websites will partially load.  When I disable it the websites don't load.  I have all of the other add-ons disable.  Is there another one that should be enabled?

Yes, it could be an add-on, but it is difficult to say which one.  Why do you have add-ons disabled in the first place?

When I reset IE7 the add-ons were disabled.  I tried enabling add-ons.  Nothing seemed to make a difference.

I did not install new software directly prior to the problem.  I install Windows and McAfee updates when they are available.  I have tried resetting the computer back to a date before I had the problem and the internet did not work via wifi.

I installed Firefox and Safari web browsers this week.  They do not work on the wifi.  They work fine when connected with the ethernet wire.

Well, this one has me stumped.  If the internet works properly with other browsers when connected by wired ethernet, but not when connected by wireless, then it eliminates a general Windows software problem.  Both wireless and ethernet should be using the same Windows routines to connect.  Do you have any firewalls running that may have specifically blocked wireless connections?    It would be unusual for a firewall to have such specific settings for wireless, but then I don't know which firewall you have and how you have it configured. Does your router have settings that would block web browsing for wireless?  Again, this would be unusual and you would really have to mess with the settings to get it to do that, but again, I have no idea what changes you may have made.   You could possibly set the router back to its default settings (all security disabled) and that might give us a hint.

I bought a USB wireless network adapter yesterday.  It works!! :smileyhappy:  The internet works when I use the USB adapter.  Something must be wrong with the internal wireless network adapter.  Thanks for all of your help!!!
