Wireless connection but no internet access

I bought an Inspiron 6400 about a month ago.  I connect to the internet through a wireless router at home with no difficulty.  Yesterday I went on my first trip with the laptop.  The Columbus, Ohio airport has free wifi access.  I was able to connect to the network without any problem, but the laptop would not use the connection to access the internet.  Neither web browsing nor email worked.

In Chicago (O'Hare), I was able to find, access, and use the wifi signal with no problem (except in Chicago they charge $6.95 a day for access - welcome to the big city).  Can anyone think of any reason why I had the problem in Columbus?

Hi,

Which wireless card is installed on the laptop? Dell 1390/1490 or Intel 3945 or Dell 1500? As you said you do get a valid IP address, did you try ping the default gateway numbers? Go into the TCP/IP properties for the wireless card and make sure it is set to DYNAMIC - Obtain and IP address automatically.
