WIreless connection but no internet access

I have a new Dell laptop that came with wireless.  I use wireless in locations having a "hot spot".

The first few times it work well but the last time I used the wireless option I couldn't connect to the interent.

I think it that windows is trying to control the internet connection instead of the software that came with the wireless card.

NOTES:  I have check the box in the wireless utility that allows use of the wireless software to control the internet connection.
I can't connect to the internet by using Interent Explorer.
I don't go thru any type of router.
The wireless connection to the network is very good (shows on the task bar)
Worked before at this hot spot

Thanks

To help troubleshoot this problem, when you are within range of the hotspot, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Note that you say you are not going though a router, hotspots are places that have routers that allow you to connect wireless.  Without their router, you would not be able to connect to anything.

Steve:

I did what you suggested at the hotspot but the information was displayed so fast on the screen it was impossible to read.

That's because you did not follow the directions.   Read them again!  You need to open the command prompt window by typing cmd then hitting the enter key!!!!  Then type the ipconfig /all command!!!

You are getting a proper IP address from some router and everything looks like you are connecting to the router.   Do you have any firewalls running that may be blocking internet access?

The only firewall I have in the one that came with the dell laptop.  I don't know if this helps but I can access the internet using dial-up.

What would I check to see if the firewall is blocking internet access? Or do I disconnect the firewall?

Thanks

I just came back from the coffee shop "hot spot" and everything worked great.  I didn't change a thing.  I now can access the internet.

The latests: went back to Atlanta Bread Company to use their hot spot and the same problem happen.  I didn't change a thing!

I then went to Barnes & Noble to use their hot spot and I was able to connect to the internet via Internet Explorer (without changes any system setting).  It is not a free service so I couldn't contact via AOL (timed out) I did get into the  AT@T site that handles the web connection for Barnes& Noblesvia explorer so in my mind the problem must be in the Atlanta Bread Companies server/router.
