Wireless Connection Good, but no Internet Connection

All of a sudden, I am no longer able to get on the web. My "Wireless Network Connection" screen allows me to connect/disconnect; and I can reliably connect with a good signal at 54 Mbps. However, when I open Internet Explorer, I get "The page cannot be displayed." If I try to check for McAfee updates, it says it is unable to connect to the Internet .
 
This started about two weeks ago and I have messed around with it when I had time. I thought it would resolve itself after a couple hours, like these situations seem to do. One interesting thing is that I have connected twice after letting it sit for a day or so, so I think it is fixed and when I come back a short while later...same problem. I bridged my connection one other time, which got it working for a short period and then back to the same thing. I know enough to be dangerous, but I really didn't know what I was doing with the bridge other than grasping at straws.
 
If I connect it straight to the modem, no problem. I bought a different wireless router...same deal, connects but no internet access.

In the icon tray on the lower right of my main screen, when I hover over one icon it says to supported wireless adapters in the system.
 
Do I need to uninstall/reinstall the adapter?
 
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, as a troubleshooting step I would suggest that you download the latest drivers from the Intel web site, then uninstall the wireless adapter, reboot, and install the drivers that you downloaded.

I am having the same problem with an Inspiron 6000 that I opened yesterday. I have an excellent wireless connection, but any web page takes forever to load, if at all. The weird thing is that if I plug in the A/C power supply, I can connect just fine, but not on just battery power. Anybody ever see this problem?

I too am having problems with my Inspiron 6000.  I have a D-Link 624 wireless router.  For two months, my wireless connection worked perfectly.  Now, if I set it to obtain an IP address automatically, it will connect but it will have little or no connectivity (signal strength isn't an issue).  It is obtaining a bad IP address.  If I set the IP address, it connects to the network, but I cannot connect to the internet.  If I connect with a CAT-5 cable, no problem.  I zip along at about 4.8 Mbps. (by the way, I am also having the same problems with my company supplied Latitude.)

I am having the same issue with my 600m.  I am at my wits end with this problem trying just about everything imaginable.  It came with the Intel 2200bg card and I was using it with a Linksys WRT54g which apparently is a bad combo, so I bought the Broadcom 1450 and installed that.  That seemed to work for about a week, but then the problem returned.  I just formatted and reinstalled Windows, and that seemed to help for about a day.  I have tried every setting there is to try with no luck.  The strange thing is that when I first started to use the laptap, it worked great for about a month and then out of nowhere this started happening.  And ralarosa, it is not obtaining a "bad" IP address, rather, it is not obtaining any IP address and is being assigned the "automatic private ip address" which starts like 169.254.x.x

Elsewhere on this forum, I saw similar problems.  The suggestion was to update the driver if you have the Dell wireless card. It worked!.  What I meant by a bad IP address is an address that is not within my network range.  I probably should have used the term "invalid".

Thanks for the reply, I have updated the driver, in fact, I formatted the whole thing and reinstalled everything with the latest drivers with no success.
