Steve,

Thanks for the link but it still didn't work. I still get "limited connectivity" because of an "invalid IP address". I have to go out of town for a few days and will check back in on Tuesday. I'll try calling Tech Support again then.

Something happened to the IP address during all of the uninstalls and reinstalls and turning on and off. Like I said earlier - it was working fine - was connected to the gateway - great signal - just couldn't get on the internet. Now I'm not even getting a good connection to the gateway.

Do you know the link to dell to update the driver for the intel pro/wireless network connection?? The Tech Rep. sent it to me via the chat but I needed to be on my laptop and the e-mail of the chat cuts part of the link off so I can't read it.

Thanks again for your reply.  Wendy

hi,
in the set up page of your router have you tried setting dhcp - this would mean your isp would provide the ip address. Also have you tried going to cmd prompt and typing "ipconfig /all" and "ip /renew". This can help some people depending on the cause.

Do you know exactly which model wireless network adapter you have?  I don't see an Intel wireless adapter listed for the M1210, but I can still find the driver if you can tell me which wireless adapter it is.

Steve,

I'm a little slow - what is the wireless adaptor?? If it's the intel WLAN - it's intel(r)pro/wireless 3945ABG network connection. The gateway I use is 2wire 1701 hg  model 3799843574. Is this it?

Thanks,

Wendy

OK I've tried everything listed above...no luck. I'm still getting limited or no connectivity - I ran repair and it still states that it cannot complete repair because it can't renew the IP address. Windows is still managing the wireless adapter. Any more suggestions??

Thanks,

Wendy

coz if it is a secured network then u have to enter the correct network key....without correct network key it will get connect signal strength would be excellent but u can not go online

so make sure that which network is this, if its secured then enter the correct netwok key

To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Is the wireless switch on the side of your computer turned on?  Do you get the same results if your ethernet cable is not plugged in (the wireless cards on most new Dell models can be set to turn off the wireless connection if an ethernet connection is present)?

Is the router set to hide the SSID?  Are any security features enabled on the router?  Have you tried resetting the router to its default settings by holding the reset button on the back in for about 10 seconds?

What really baffles me is that you say it is connected to the router and it is getting an excellent signal, yet the ipconfig shows that it is disconnected.   It can't be disconnected and connected at the same time.  Are you sure the ipconfig output you posted is from the computer that can't get a wireless connection?   Please just answer the question and avoid the rants.

The wireless switch on the side is turned on.I get the same results with or without the ethernet cable plugged in. I also have to continue to run the IP reset if I shut down the laptop and restart. I'm so frustrated with the whole wireless thing - I bought this laptop just for that reason - I have a great new XPS desktop that I LOVE - this wireless issue is starting to make me hate my laptop and I've only had it a week today.

Thanks for your continued help - maybe a solution will be found soon.
