If the router is set to obtain ip address automatically and DNS then you should not enter the ip address manually as a static address. Check this by double clicking the icon where it is trying to obtain the ip address. Select properties and then highlight the internet protocal (TCP/IP and select properties. Make sure that automatic is selected for the ip address and DNS. Your problem could be simple like just a setting. Sometimes one can power down the modem and router, wait several minutes and then power up the modem first. Once fully powered up then power the router. Once the router is fully powered then select start>run and type in ipconfig /release. Then hit enter. Then type in ipconfig /renew and hit ener. If the address renews write down or copy and paste  the information so you can post here if needed. If it renews then try to connect again. Now here is information provided by Dell you can read also.

Thanks for all your help.  As you can see the link that Steve gave me worked with one of them.

Maybe you could help with the other problem I have posted!!  :0

Thanks again.

Thanks Steve, that worked, on one of them anyway.

I have another problem with the other and hope that you can help me with this?

There seems to be a problem with the Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini card.  There is a yellow exclamation mark next to it.  It states that windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.  The driver may be corrupted or missig (code 39).

It also states that no driver details are required or have been loaded.  It isn't using any resources because it has a problem.

I also cannot access the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility whilst the other one picked this up straight away.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Steve,

I have the drivers & utilities disk from Dell.  Problem is when I load it, I don't know how to re-install it?

It states it has device drivers on its contents.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just download the one from the site I referenced.  It is newer than the one on the CD.   Download it to a computer with intenret access.  Copy the file to a CD-R or USB thumb drive, then copy it from there to the computer that needs the driver.  Run it from that computer to install the drivers.

Hi,

You'll never guess whats happened now.

The screen on one of the laptops is very dark when it was switched on this morning, you can barely see the image on the screen.

It starts up, the fan isn't on for long though and the lights for the battery and the ac adaptor just seem to flicker.

Getting really downhearted now and wished I'd never got them!  Hehehe

Any help would be great again.

Thanks.

This problem is outside my realm.  Try posting on the Portables - Video forum where you are more likely to get an informed response.
