Wireless connection suddenly turns off

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Windows Vista installed, my wireless network card is Intel 3945 built in. I connect to the wireless routers and everything works fine then suddenly after a while the indicator lid goes off and windows indicates that it is turned on and I have to restart the computer in order to use it again.

I downloaded the most recent Intel driver 11.11 and installed it and it messed up everything so I removed it and the connection works fine till now. It happens when I try to open many webpages at once and I also read it in one of the threads. It is really annoying to have to restart the computer everytime it does that

This is a driver failure issue.  In your Event Log, you should notice that it has an event similar to this:

The description for Event ID ( 5002 ) in Source ( NETw4x32 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: , \DEVICE\{A5A50319-C619-444E-9463-99C1714F1738}.

Event ID 5002 means driver failure/error.

I would say that the more you download via that link the sooner it fails.

This issue still exists and the workarounds do not provide a long term solution.  When can we expect a fix for this issue?  Latest Intel drivers (11.1.1.11) do NOT fix this issue.  It's not hardware, because I already had that replaced once.

Have the same problem now, my 3945 wi-fi stop working and I look down at the laptop and noticed the wi-fi light has gone out. Have go back to 10.6.0.29 which I hope will fix this temperature problem, I do remember that I did updated the Intel drivers as well and might change this back if this still happens. cheers Drew

I too have this issue not sure what triggers the bug but happens sometimes when I open my lid from stand by but then again happens other time also. What I do know is that its bl~#dy annoying and that when it happens, the only way to get it back is with a restart. Not even Fn+F2 works!! this is a bad issue that needs sorting, I’ve tried both driver but issue remains. this isn’t the only issue I’ve had with vista though, contrary to the stories of vista running great on 6400's I’ve had load of issues to name but a few:

  • reports from vista that wifi driver & graphics drivers are slowing down start up etc
  • the gadgets taking ages to load at start up despite the side bar its self loading relatively quickly and also only have two pre-installed gadgets running
  • a performance issues under advanced tools telling me performance can be improved by turning off aero, err what (considering i have the highest spec 6400 they ever offered including 2gb 667mhz mem)!!!
  • Recycling bin image sometimes doesn’t up date after emptying.
  • basically too many issues to list probably all down to drivers on dells side but as it seems they cant be bothered to pull their finger and do something it looks like ill have to return to good old xp, what a waist considering I went for ultimate as well!!!
