It is very unclear from your message exactly what it is you are trying to do.  Are you having problems connecting to the internet from this computer using a wireless connection or are you having trouble connecting to another computer on your local network?

Are you able to connect to your router from http://192.168.1.1? I assume factory setting.

Both problems.  The failure to access the internet was the first concern.

I have a suspicion that the network configuration on the laptop may be corrupted.  The network icon displays when Microsoft Windows Network is opened but when the network icon is opened there is an empty window that comes up.

took me too long to post me reply :) Didn't see you item about the window being blank.

You could post that on the xp forum to see what folks say.  I'd try intel or dell utils first, before folks start to tell you to restore, or worse, reinstall everything...

Looks like you can't connect to the router.  Suggest not using the windows config, use the software form intel or dell depending on your card, they have much more info.

Do you know if you have an intel card (2100, 2200, etc) or a truemobile 1300, 1450, etc?

If intel suggest you try intel proset software, if truemobile dell has a network utility too.

to check if your wireless is working you can open a command prompt via start button -> run -> then type cmd and hit ok.
When you get the back dos screen type ipconfig /all >>config.txt then hit enter
then type config.txt and hit enter.  Notepad should poup with the results, copy  them here and post the results.

If you don't know what you have you can try:
intel detection tool
Dell Profiler:

I did download but did not run.  Checked again with Linksys and the problem was corrected by installing new firmware.  I will save the program for the future.

Thanks.
