Wireless connection to mobile phone

Hi there, I just bought a Nokia 3205 phone (if it helps, I'm in NZ) and want to use Nokia PC Suit with it and my Inspiron 600m.  I can see the infrared thingy on the side of my computer, but aparently the inside of my computer doesn't know it's there.  How can I set up the infrared?  I really would like to load my photos onto my computer and make tones for my mobile!  Thanks anyone who can help!

Make sure it is enabled in the BIOS - hit F2 while the Dell Splash shows at boot to get in, then Alt+P to change pages.

Hi there, thanks for your help, i checked the Bios but it is enabled.  I tried to use the PC Suite thing again, but it still wont work.  I'm wondering, the Dell Inspiron does have a infrared sensor right?  If not i feel silly.

i've checked everything I can think of now.  I definately have a infrared port, and it says everywhere that it's working, but i still can't get my phone to talk to the computer.  I'm beginnig to think maybe i dont have the drivers for it, or that it's my phone.  Any last suggestions before i go ask at the shop?

Have you checked in "Device Manager" for any 'problems' with the infra-red adapter?

This is so stupid!  Last time I looked, nothing was wrong in the device manager!  Now I look again and there's a cross there.  I just enabled it and am going to redownload the software for the phone to make sure i'm not doing something wrong there.  Thanks for pointing that out again, and i'll let u know what happens.

Hi there, redownloaded pc suite for the phone, there is a wireless network showing up on my wireless conections menu that is not there when i dont have the infrared enabled on my phone.  However the pc suite does not register a phone present and the wireless connection doesn't want to connect.  I'm about to go spare at this stupid thing, i thought technology was supposed to make things easier!!!  :smileyvery-happy:

Ok,  so, when your phone is enabled for wireless transmission, your computer picks up the 'connection', but won't 'register' the phone to allow your images to be transferred? At least it knows that something (the phone) is there correct?

Right, after all this, I figured out it isn't picking up the phone, it's picking up a neighbouring signal from somewhere else (I HATE the city!).  When there are no wireless networks around, and i turn on the infrared on the phone, nothing happens in the computer's wireless networks list.  I have gone to windows and there are no updates for the infrared drivers, there seems to be nothing wrong with my infrared connections, as I can connect to other wireless networks and there are no symbols next to the infrared divice on the divice manager, it is enabled in the bios, I have downloaded the Nokia PC Suite (though I don't even get to try that for the fact that it wont connect!! grrr), and I dont know what else to do!  A friend asked, have you considered that the infrared port on your computer may not be compatible with the phone?  But i have no idea how to find out.  All i can find when i look at the properties of my infrared divice is that it's a generic one.  Any suggestions?
