Wireless connection to Verizon DSL

I cannot connect wirelessly with my new Dell D630 running XP SP2 using the installed Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card.  I can see the router, checked and double checked the WEP setting, and cannot get it to connect.  My ISP "Tech Support" and my company IT help desk couldn't help either.

I cannot see why that combination doesn't work.  My old laptop, Dell D600 worked fine with this setup.

Hi Rush,

is this a Westell 327W wireless router by any chance? if yes, then you need to upgrade the firmware for the router. its a compatibility issue between the router and the card. check the bottom of the router and post the exact model number here and i will give you the link for the upgrade

Note: the model number would look something like A90-327W15-06
Another Note: Verizon tech support won't help you with this

the same issue has also been seen with the B90 model so there is a firmware upgrade for that too

You need to read this if it is a 327w:

You must meet both conditions for this to be the problem.

Amen Verizon "Tech Support" won't help.  Unfortunatly the update for my Westell Versalink A90-327W15-06 is made (read that has special ROM's) especailly for Verizon Online.  We tried (and failed) to update the router.  I called for a replacement, and they told me that I had to have "Inhome Service".  This sounds like a few weeks to resolve.  I have been getting by with a long cat 5 cable, but it is, to say the least, cumbersome.  Many thanks for the post, though.

if the router already has the update then i'm not sure if anything else will fix it. but if you tried to update the router and failed then ensure that the firewall is disabled. i have seen multiple instances where the upgrade package would not detect the router because the firewalll was enabled
