wireless connection with a linksys router
I recently aquired a hand me down inspiron 8600 and tried connecting to my wireless network. What I found was the NIC in the laptop only supports WEP encryption. I had the router setup for WPA and my other laptop connected just fine but only supports WPA. Has anyone experieced this and what did you do about it. I'm wondering if I should buy an new NIC for it or is there a way to configure both encryption methods on the same router.

I would just get a new wireless adapter for the 8600. Routers do not have the capabilites to run in a mixed security mode. You would have to drop all the security to WEP in order to get them all to work together.
I would get a linksys external card. That matches your router type
