Wireless Connection
I just recently bought the Inspiron 6000 laptop.
My service tag number is B7R0M71.
I am trying to connect through my D-Link wireless router. It says that I am connected but for some reason I cannot use the internet explorer and browse. I don't know what the problem is.
Right now I'm using a wire to connect.
I used Dell Chat and even called the HelpDesk ... they referred me to the software service that costs $59.99 or $199 for a year. They also gave me this reference to use the forum.
The Dell Chat person told me that the wireless card is ok and everything is fine. I just can't seem to do anything online even though I am connected.
Please assist me with this.
Thank You

Well, to start off with, you'll need to get into your router. (Make sure that you use a wired connection for this!) Hopefully, you have the password for the thing. Usually, you'd open up a browser (IE, Firefox, etc) and type in the router's internal IP address (it could be 192.168.1.1 (typically for Linksys), 192.168.2.1 (for SMC)). If you have it right, the page will pop up.
Now, enter the password and you should be taken to your router administration page. To troubleshoot the thing, disable all security settings and MAC filtering.
Once this is done, get your wireless working and see if it connects. If it does, then the problem lies in one of your security settings on the laptop wireless card, or the MAC filtering has to be adjusted.
If the card doesn't connect: if you have removed the Dell software for card management, reinstall it as you may have also removed the drivers. (Or, the machine wasn't set up properly...) either way, check with Dell about the software. Another reason for a disconnect is that the card is bad. I had that happen with my 5150 when I got it. I found that when I did the diagnostics on it (and the Dell software has some diagnostics), it failed the memory test. I got a new card sent to me the next day.
Give things a try and let us know what happens....
