Wireless connection

I have my wireless router connected to the downstairs computer via ethernet cable.

Is it possible to connect the router to the telephone line in the hall and use a wireless adaptor to connect the downstairs comp to the internet ?

Also if this is possible would it make the internet connection any faster

For a dsl internet connection through a router, you won't see any difference in speed between a wireless and an ethernet connection.   I have no idea what the effect of a shorter telephone cable would be, but I doubt you would see any difference.

It is an adsl internet service, I heard somewhere that it is quicker if the house telephone cable is very short, which is why I wanted to connect the router to where the phone cable enters the house, then use wireless connections within the house.

If there is no difference in speed, then it is not worth going any further.

Thanks for your help.

Routers don't normally have the ability to connect to a telephone line.  What kind of internet service do you have?  If it is dsl, then you might note that the telephone line is connected to the dsl modem, not the router.  What makes you think that there would be any increase in speed with the setup you are contemplating?
