wireless connects but nothing happens

the wireless on my 700m was working perfectly for 3 months.  then yesterday out of the blue, it just stopped working.  i've tried everything, from reinstalling the card, to doing virus and adware scans.  when i try to connect, it connects normally and sends packets, but it doesn't receive anything.  i can't even connect to my own router, even though it says connected.  my wep and ssids are properly configured, and i haven't  touched them since i first configured the laptop.  i have 2 other computers on the same network, so i know the router isn't the problem.  any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks in advance!

Did you check to see if you have an IP address assigned?  If not, you might try temporarily disabling your firewall and asking Windows to "repair" the connection to see if it starts things working. If so, you may need to configure your firewall to view your default gateway as a "trusted site".  I don't understand why this would happen all of a sudden, but a recent update may have affected your settings.

Also, if you are using a cable modem, you might try resetting it by removing power for a few minutes and then re-applying power.  Cable modems remember the MAC addresses of the computers they connect to, and if this has been disturbed it needs to re-learn the address.

That happens to us every few months as well, and we simply power off the computer, modem, and router and reboot them in opposite order.

thanks for your help, but it didn't work.  i have no clue what the problem could be.  i used to work fine all over my house.  now the laptop only catch wifi when it's very close to the modem.  even when i'm on the 2nd floor and place the laptop next to my desktop, the desktop wifi works fine while the laptop "connects" but cannot get an IP address.  i'm starting to suspect its something with the laptop and not the modem.

well i replaced modems and the problems still persist.  the wifi won't work unless its within 10 feet of the modem, which is ridiculous.  i have little doubt in my mind it's something with the nic.

I agree that the NIC is suspect, but what about the antenna connections?  Have you removed the cover, disconnected and then reconnected the antenna?

I would suggest maybe trying another card in the laptop and see what happens. I've had a few wireless cards go bad over the last few years.. as soon as I pop in a new one it works fine.

well i didn't really fiddle with the nic itself. i unpluged the 2 connections and reseated it. i got the same results, so after speaking with tech support they are sending me a new adapter. i'm almost lucky this happened because my warranty expires in 4 days. next time i'll think twice about not getting an extended warranty =T. thanks for all your help.
