Wireless constantly renews IP address

I'm running XP Pro on an Inspiron 9400 with an Intel wireless adapter. On every wireless network that I connect to, my computer feels the need to renew its IP address at least every 30 minutes. After doing this for awhile, it is unable to renew the IP address and I have to restart the router. I think at some point the router is just blocking my system out. Any clues (preferably ones that do not involve reentering my key, since my family apparently went and lost that piece of paper)?
Thanks!
(Also, I have tried reinstalling the wireless adapter, to no avail)

Which wireless network adapter do  you have in that machine?  Have you tried adjusting the power management settings on the adapter to always supply full power?

Done. Should I try setting a static IP as well, or will that be a bad idea?
My adapter is an Intel 3945 ABG.

No, don't set a static IP address.  It may work on one network, but is unlikely to work on all networks you connect to.  It is best to leave it dynamic.  Do you have the latest drivers from Intel for your wireless adapter?

I do now.  The last one wasn't that old, though.  Changing the power options may have worked though.  I'll give it the rest of the day to see, but I haven't had trouble with it since.

No, it's still giving me trouble.  When I use Windows to manage the connection instead, it happens about every 20 seconds.  The signal's really strong in the room I'm in now, so I doubt it's actually losing the connection.

It may be that your wireless adapter is failing.  If you are still under warranty, call Dell Tech Support.
