Wireless constantly up and down?

I have the dell internal 1300 wireless card and a netgear MR814 wireless router at my house. Every 30 minutes or so the connection goes on and off. If I am logged onto AIM all of my buddies get the annoying little log on/off sound and pop up. There has to be some way to fix this because it is very annoying to me and everyone else. Before I upgraded to XP SP2 I had no problems at all with this. Can anyone help me out?

Is your router broadcasting the SSID? If not then this may apply to you. When you upgraded to SP2, you might have started using Microsoft's WZC in place of your 1300's wireless client.

My router is broadcasting the SSID and I disabled the WZC and am using the Dell Wireless Utility instead. Sould I make any changes to what I am using?

If you have upgraded your Windows version to SP2, I highly recommend using Windows to manage your wireless network. The version that comes with SP2 is far superior to the utility that comes with the TM cards.

Ok I am just using the XP SP2 software to connect now. I disabled all other wireless connection software and the problem is still happening.

Open the wireless connection windows by clicking on the wireless network icon in the system and selecting "View Available wireless networks". Are there other networks besides your network listed there? If there are, click on "Change the order of preferred wireless networks". For each network listed is that is not your network, select it and then click on the Remove button. See if that prevents it from seeing the other networks. You might also want to make sure your wireless network is secure (especially if the other networks are not secure) by adding security features in your router and configuring any computer that connects to the router to be consistent with the security settings.

I only have one network listed and it is secure. I have access on our wireless network restricted by mac address to my laptop, the family's desktop and our X-Box.

If everything else seems to be OK, do you (or someone within 1000 feet) have a 2.4GHz cordless phone? The cordless phone, if its signal is within range and strong enough, will disrupt the wireless connection.
