After updating the firmware on your router, did you reset the router to it's default settings and reconfigure? This step is always advised after a firmware update.
Are you running Windows XP on both computers?

Yeah, I did reset the router to it's default settings and reconfigured. And yes I am running windows xp home on both computers.

If the wireless card is internal on your Inspiron 640, try updating the driver for it?
