Wireless device shows as having no driver (?)
I have Vista biz 64 bit SP3, and it still isnt detecting my wireless card on first install of the vista OS, which I find odd given its SP3. I suspect a burned out card ?
This is 7 yrs old and I hope its not wrong to do this, but I'm having the same problem now, and doing a 'update driver' from device manager, on yes a 7 ish yr old computer, but I love it for the 17 " display and for mobile, is not working; it can't find the drivers.
The broadband device is showing up as found under device manager, but there are 4 listings under 'other' and they are all ?'s, and the last one is called " network controller' and first three 'base system device.
I got this for mobility in part so I"m hoping I don't have to lug around a cord for it ;)

Are they on dells website somewhere ?

NEIGHBORLEE2 ,
Click the link below to choose your computer from the list. You can then choose your Operating System. Install the drivers for your computer. If it is a fresh install the computer will not find any drivers unless you have the drivers disk or drivers downloaded. There is also and install order for the drivers. Click the other link below for information and driver install order.

There is no Windows Vista Service Pack 3. Its last Service Pack was Service Pack 2.
Windows XP had Service Pack 3 and an Unofficial Service Pack 4.
Can you confirm whether you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista?
Note both Operating Systems are effectively at End of Life. They should be considered insecure and hence should not be used online.

Sorry I misspoke, I guess I was yes, thinking about XP sp3, as yes my vista 64bit business OS is SP2 ;)
Microsoft still supports Vista via 'extended' support, for security fixes, and thats untiol 4/27, and what they do NOT fix is anything NON security fix wise UNLESS you buy their extended support, so even Vista is yes, safe till 4/17, admittedly coming up shortly.
I"ve yet to try the post by the other person on this page but I will today..
Just because something is 'unsafe', doesn't mean all of us can 'afford' to upgrade , but ty for the reminder.
Given the mess MS has created with windows 10 and to some degree windows 8, i'm MUCH less overjoyed about 'buying' any OS they have to offer, and especially with the nighmares I've had with start screen ( tiles won't drag, they just disappear and its STILL going on now! ) and 'edge' browser headaches that are still a problem today ( bookmarks, favorite bar nightmares) I'm not about to spend hard earned money in Ms's direction, anytime soon.
I have a apple macbook pro, and I'll me using it a lot now. Apple takes care of their customers unlike MS as of late.
thx

P..S.- Ty so much for dell support site, as going there on my 1721, found everything, though the ati catalyst driver errored on final stage, so I have no idea how stable its going to be, is this a known issue ?
Anyway it was nice and easy, ty DELL for making even older laptops easy to find drivers for, HP is not even close.
I know what to buy in the future.

Windows Vista has "extended" support until April 2017...
However already Google have ditched Chrome support and Microsoft have dropped support for all IE version below 11; Vista only supports up to IE9...
At current its generally not worthwhile installing Windows Vista and taking the time to download years worth of updates.
