Wireless disconnecting with phone ringing

Question

My wireless connection on my laptop goes out every time I get a phone call and won't reconnect until I get off the phone.  I'm using cable internet.  This just started about a month ago.  I called the cable company and they told me to put the telephone in a separate room from the cable modem, but this just started happening and the phone has been in the same room for years. Any other suggestions?  I was thinking maybe there's a setting that I need to change? the only thing different here is that my son is using a PS3 hooked to the internet, but this problem happens even when he's not connected.  Modem is a Wireless Surfboard Gateway and computer is a Dell Inspiron 1150. thanks

Both phone and Wireless Surfboard may have a Channel setting on them? Switch one or the other to a different channel to see if that fixes the problem?

It's not a cordless phone in that room.  I looked at the router and there's no channels on it either.  I tried my son's computer which is wired, and it's fine when the phone rings.  It's only a problem with my laptop. thanks, Doreen

The channel selection (1-11) would be in the wireless utility for your laptop's wireless adapter and the web utility for your wireless router. Change them both to the identical channel selection. See if that remedies the problem?   What sort of phone service are you using VOIP, or regular landline?

I have no idea how to do that??? The phone is a regular land line.

Okay, if you don't have VOIP phone service and you are not using a cordless phone then I cannot help you and you need to call either Dell tech support, or your phone company to troubleshoot this problem, Sorry!
