Wireless error: Unable to renew IP Address

Greetings

I recently removed software no longer used for connecting to the internet via my cell phone (Verizon / Smith Micro Software).  Now I can no longer use the wireless connection or a wired lan connection.

The system is an XPS laptop with the 1400 truemobile minicard running XP professional SP2.
The network connection reports that I have a strong signal and connects with the password using WPA and alerts me that I will have limited or no connectivity.  When I request it to repair the connection, it reports that it is unable to renew the IP address.  The router's DHCP server (Netgear WGU624) is working fine on another laptop and a wireless printer.

If I supply an IP address and specify the DNS servers used by my ISP, I am able to ping the router and also ping the DNS servers, however, I am unable to use Windows Explorer or AOL.

The same symtoms occur with the laptop plugged into a wired network.  I am unable to " repair " the connection.

I am stumped and looking forward to learning from the wisdom of this community.

Thank you for your very kind attention.

Try downloading this software (free) and running it on the laptop and see if that fixes it.

Glad it worked. When you removed that other software, it zapped your Windows sockets. Poorly written install/remove program.

The utility worked fine.  The connectivity issue was fixed in about 15 seconds.

Thank you for your assistance.
