Are both computers members of the same workgroup? If you are running Windows XP you can right click "My Computers" on the desktop. choose properties, click the Computer name tab to see what workgroup or domain the computers are members of. If they are different you need to change one to match your workgroup you have setup.

Yes they are in the same work group. For whatever reason when I run the network setup, it doesn't recognize my wireless router (linksys) and it tells me that the local area connection (Broadcom 440x) is disconnected as well. Does this have anything to do with it?

Yes the disconnected means no netwrok connection is available, or can you at least get out to the internet?
