"Wireless Interface Disabled" Inspiron1545
Running WinXP. My computer was going slow so I ended a process (or two) in Windows Task Manager/Processes tab and I disabled some Services and Startup items in MSConfig. I have no idea which ones and had no idea what I was doing - dangerous, I know.
I'm now paying the price and cannot get WiFi going. When I boot up, I get "Wireless Interface Disabled." Under Wireless Network Connections it says "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection." I have tried the following with no success:
- Made sure the WiFi button (F2) was on
- Made sure the Bluetooth radio button was on (but I don't remember how/where I checked that setting)
Beyond that, I'm clueless in Ohio. BUT, my computer is going much faster! Thanks for your help!

eugenam1,
Go back in msconfig and enable everything.
Restart your computer.
If you connect, then you're back in business. If that doesn't work, try system restore and go back to when it worked.
If you get things working, then try reading...
Windows startup programs. What are they? Are they required? How can I disable them?
Windows startup programs - Database search

Thanks Rick - unfortunately both suggestions did not work. I enabled everything in Startup via msconfig. I restored to a much earlier date to be safe. Many things were restored but not the WiFi.
I get this error now: "Dell Wireless WLAN Card still disabled. Slide wireless ON/OFF switch.
I've hit Fn/F2 which does nothing. I've right-clicked on the icons in the startup tray and selected "enable" - they don't work. I don't know where to find the on/off switch.
I appreciate the help and the links that you shared!

eugenam1,
Restart the computer and press F2 at startup and enter the bios. Make sure the wireless adapter is enabled there.
Start, control panel, device manager, right click on your wireless adapter, left click enable.
Try installing Dell QuickSet from Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then under applications.
Fn and F2 on some F2 on some and some have a switch.
Start, control panel, windows mobility center. Make sure the wireless network is turned on.

Rick! Fabulous, it's working now - thank you! It was disabled in the bios and the device manager. Now I'm going to review those links you sent me earlier so that when I go playing in msconfig/startup, I know what I'm doing! Thanks again!
