Wireless internet connection for Linux

Question

I have installed the Linux Mint operating system on my Inspiron 1501 to run alongside the XP system that I have used for years. Using Linux I am unable to connect to internet by wifi, the Fn and F2 keys not acting to light the wifi indicator.   The wifi works as before when I use XP. Can anyone tell me why?

From the looks of it they're describing your exact issue and have solutions listed to get WiFi working with Mint.
