Wireless internet connection issues - Inspiron D530

Question

Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some insight into a problem I have been experiencing. If you do answer, please keep in mind it took me 3 hours to figure out how to post this message - so, you might need to keep it on the simple side. I have a Dell Inspiron D530 and a wireless network connection. About 2 weeks ago I started having problems connecting to the wirless network. It wouldn't connect automatically and was slow in connecting manually. It might take 40-45 before I got a workable connection. I called my internet company and they reset the network, changed the settings, changed them back, reset the network again, changed a whole whack of stuff (that's as technical as I get) hemmed, hawed and after 2 hours told me to call Dell because the problem must be a driver.  I called Dell and they looked at things and concluded there is no problem with the drivers. It isn't a signal strength issue and I'm not sure where to go next. I'm not expecting anyone to solve this for but if you have any ideas on things I could look at that would be great. At this point I have a wired connection to the internet and everything is fine.  I can sometimes gets wireless connection but when I do it is slow and spotty. thanks in advance Hamish!

Mine has started doing the same thing. I have a different Inspiron however.  It started happening when Windows shoved out a security update about 3 days ago. I am wondering if it has to do with the internet explorer patch? I have no idea how to fix mine. It works periodically and I have tried about everything.
