Wireless Internet connection problem
Computer: Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop
Operating system: Windows XP
1) I turn on my computer, log in to my account and get told there are wireless networks available.
2) I right click on the icon in the system tray and select ‘Open Network Connections’
3) I double click on ‘Wireless Network Connections’ which is a ‘LAN or High Speed Internet’ type, not connected but Firewalled and has the device name ‘Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card
4)I refresh the network list. My wireless network comes up with ‘excellent’ strength. I select it and click ‘connect’
5) It is a security-accessed wireless network (WPA) so it requires a security key. I type it in and then confirm it.
6) I click ‘connect’
7) A popup window appears stating ‘Pease wait while Windows connects to ‘home’ network.’ It then shows ‘waiting for the network…’ with a progress bar with lovely moving green squares.
8) This stays on my screen for about three minutes before it disappears. The network still isn’t connected.
9) I hover over the Wireless Network Connection toolbar in the system tray and it says ‘Not connected.’ I right click and say ‘repair’.
10) The repair process begins; it disables the network adapter, re-enables the network adapter and then tries to connect.
11) A popup then appears stating: ‘Unable to connect to wireless network. Windows could not connect to the ‘Home’ network. Windows will keep trying to connect. To see more options…’
My computer is the ONLY one in the house that it does this for. We have tried everything and it still refuses to work. Can anybody offer any advice at all? I even sent my computer in for fixing but I got it back and the technician said everything worked perfectly. So now I’m just annoyed. Anybody with some wisdom?

I suspect that the antenna wire(s) may have come off the wireless adapter. If the computer is under warranty, contact Dell If not under warranty, the instructions are HERE.

WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security (Personal)? Try channels 1, 6 or 11. I use channel 11.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Click on network, double click on Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card, click on advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. Change it from Auto to Aux.
Restart your computer and try to connect.
Can you connect?

Try allowing Windows to manage your connection.
How can I disable wireless configuration services and enable the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration services
Can you provide an ipconfig /all log
What is the make and model of your wireless router?
Can you connect when you're next to the wireless router?
What virus program are you using?
