Wireless Internet Connection Setup Help
I was wondering if there is a way to connect my one and only computer to my cable modem wirelessly. I went to a "computer" store, and they swore that the $140.00 worth of equipment they sold me would make that happen. However, no matter what I do, it isn't working. I have a D-link router (DI-624) and Netgear USB adapter. (I also bought a D-link adapter card that I cannot install b/c I cannot take the cover off of my new Dell.) I installed everything and I get a signal, but I cannot get Windows XP to recognize (access) an IP address. It keeps telling me that there is "limited or no connectivity".
My only other option is to take my 100 feet of cable wire and string it from the point where the connection comes in the house and run it around the baseboards to the point where the computer desk actually fits in my house. LOL
Does anyone have any suggestions?? HELP!

It's always a good idea to first connect to a wireless router by a wired ethernet connection so you can configure the wireless network. I don't understand what you mean when you say you cannot take the cover off your new Dell. Are you afraid it will void the warranty (it won't) or you just don't know how to open the case? My experience is that PCI network cards (wired or wireless) always have less problems than USB network cards (wired or wireless).
Can you connect and get an IP address through a wired connection on this same computer? When you switch the device connecting to the cable modem, do you always do a complete reset of the network (turn everything off, wait a few minutes, turn on the cable modem, wait another 5 minuters, then turn on the router (if present) and then the computers)?
