wireless internet for laptops

My husband is a truck driver and wants to access the internet while he is on the road. Truck stops charge for connection to wi-fi and the connection is not secure. What is the most econimical way to get internet from anywhere? Verizon wants $60.00 a month and a two year comitment! Is that the usual amount? It seems VERY high!
Thanks for any answers!

Hi,

Verizon and Sprint provides EVDO (Technology used) service. We also have serivce providers like Cingular and T-Mobile who provide GPRS/EDGE Service is comparably cheaper from EVDO. I am not sure about the exact rate plans though. Cards vary for each service provider.
