Which model of Dell notebook computer?
What happens when you go to the 'tray' and right-click, selecting 'Show available wireless networks' ?

I'm having the same issues...I just received my E1505 today as well and this is my first time going (or trying to go) wireless.

When I right-click and select "View Available Wireless Networks," it brings up a window that says, "Choose a wireless network" which I've done.  Then it gives me the option to disconnect from the network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

"Disconnect" usually means there is already a connection. At least that is true on dial-up.
Are you saying that you then run a web browswer and fail to reach a website?

IPCONFIG /ALL >My.txt

and report (paste) here.

I assume either you have your own LinkSys wireless access point or are near someone else's.
If you think the connection is made, then the next thing to do is run a web browser.
Can you get to msn dot com
google dot com
and so forth?

i ran internet explorer..the access that i have is in my house and i have tried it from rite next to it..to my basement and nothing seems to work..it says that there is a network connection and it shows 5 bars powered up..in the little bubble it says that the connection is excellent but when i open internet explorer it says page cannot be displayed..i try different web sites and nothing works on there..is my best bet to just call dell i mean its easier to follow directions than hear someone tell you them in my opinion..what should i do??

Bob,

Who is your ISP and what software firewall are you using?

If your kit is new and you are having problems perhaps Dell would be your best bet.

In my opinion there are at least two things you need to get access:

1) "Use DHCP to assign TCP/IP address automatically"
2) DNS must be working (unless you type the actual TCP/IP

In addition, it might help for you to 'Add' the Gateway address (to your router)

G: What does it mean?  I have the same problem: there is connection, but I cannot reach a web site in the browser after setting security to low

Can you be a little friendlier, Sir?  Thos eacronims mean nothing without some explanation.  not everyone in thes world is exactly like you
