Wireless Internet tooooo slow--Please help

Question

I have high-speed cable internet, a linksys wireless B router, a Dell Inspiron 1000, and a Dell TrueMobile 1300 wireless card. When I am wired to the router, I get lightning fast speed of 100mbps. When connected with the wireless card, the connection is 'excellent' with 11mbps. It's as slow as dial-up and I find it useless. How do you fix this? I see that many others are having the same problem. What is the point of wireless if it goes so slow??

You should be able to get the same speed out of wireless as you do from a wired connection. Try going to www.dslreports.com and click on the Tools link on the left hand side. Run the tweak test, and if necessary download and run the DrTCP applet to change the RWIN values in the Windows Registry to the value recommended by the Tweak test.

Thank your Volcano for your adivise. I followed your instructions adn changed the RWIN. Still have same issue. Any other advice?

Are you running encryption on your network?  If so, try temporarily disabling encryption and see if the speed improves. Steve

The Broadband Reports tools are so cool. My only problem was that I needed to upgrade the firmware on the router. Missed that one. Now I am at mock speed. Thanks so much for your advice.
