Wireless issues on Inspiron 6400

Does anyone have any issues with the Insp 6400 Wlan 1390 card?  I bought a new 6400 in Dec 06, within a few weeks my wireless went spotty, it would connect an hour or so and then loose the connection.  Rebooting the PC, the, Router, DSL Modem, switch never helped.  Dell connected and "tweaked" settings and t would work.  This happened a few more times within a week.  Dell agreed to replace the system.  New machine arrives, within 24 hours I have the same situation.

My network has a 2Wire Home Portal router.

OK, now I have other equipment working correctly with my system.  Dell Inspiron 4000 with a SMC 54G card works fine, a Toshiba Satellite with a Gigafast 802.11B works fine. BUT the new 6400 is flakey.  What gives!

I asked Dell WLAN Support last night if there are known issues, none I was told.  I have been a customer of Dell's since the mid 90's - never a problem with equiptment or support.

Any input would help.

Have you tried updating the firmware on your router?  As network technology gets newer, older routers may get left behind, a firmware upgrade to the router may compensate for this.

Hi,

I have a similar problem with my inspiron 6400. I just recently switched computer (from a latitude) and with the latitude I didn't experience any problems, but now I get "holes" in my internet connection. Most of the time it works fine but every half hour or so the connections gets very slow... Anyone seen something similar and have solution...?

Thanks,
SkellyDK

Yes, Dell and I went through all the firmware updates on the Router and Notebook.

Seems to me it is a heat issue, works fine for about 1-1/2 hrs., then it goes south for the winter.
