wireless laptop print problem

Recently purchased a wireless internet router to use with my new Inspiron 6100.  My desktop is not wireless but it is connected thru the router.  My problem is I want to be able to print from my USB printer which attached to my desktop, thru my laptop but am unable to.  There's got to be more setup than just clicking the "share this printer" button. How do I get my laptop to communicate with the printer that is not "networked".  I've added the printer to the laptop, I run WinXP on both machines.  Is there a fairly simple set up for this problem or would it be easier to just get a wireless USB print server? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Your Desktop must be on & in Windows for you to be able to Print.  Hence, The PC which the Printer is hooked up through, needs to be turned on for the Printer to work for your other PC which is on the same network as you.

And if it is running XP, the firewall has to be turned off.  The printer also has to be shared (as you stated), both computers have to be in the same workgroup, and I would read this.

I would think that you should just get a Wireless USB Print Server. They sound like they are easier to run than what you have.Good Luck!!
