wireless "limited or no connectivity"

have an inspiron 6000 with a intel 2200 on-board wireless card.

my hard wired connection works fine, but my wireless connection will not obtain an IP address.  keeps getting "limited or no connectivity" error.

i've tried re-installing, tried winsock fix, tried replacing the card......

any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Has the wireless connection ever worked before?  If so, did you make any changes to the wireless security settings or did you enable the wireless security settings?  If so, try disabling WEP or WPA encryption and make sure that you are either not using MAC address filtering or you have entered the correct MAC address of you wireless network card into the allowable MAC addresses in your router.  Does your wireless network show up in the available networks list?

yeah, it worked fine for about a month.  it worked on my home wireless network and it also worked on my office network.  all networks are visible in the available networks.

WPA encryption is enabled, mac address filtering is not. does not work when wpa is disabled either.

this may help too, when this issue originally happened dell had me do a system restore  to the day before it stopped working.  the restore point was created by spybot.  that fixed it, but it has since stopped working again.

constantly doing system restores doesn't sound like fun to me..... thx again

You might try uninstalling your wireless network adapter, rebooting, and then reinstalling the wireless adapter.

Sorry, I had forgotten that you already tried reinstalling the drivers.  Since this only affects the wireless card, it can't be a software problem related to Windows' overall handling of network connections.  It has to be a software problem related only to the way Windows handles the wireless card.  When you ran Spybot, did it find anything besides tracking cookies.

If you have had spyware problems in the past and continue to have them, you might consider going Here and following the directions to download and run the analysis tool called HijackThis. Generate a log file, then open it and copy and paste the text of the log file in a message in the HijackThis forum where a HijackThis expert may be able to see something that would affect only your wireless connection.

You might also consider creating a new Restore point  while the card is working, then carefully keep track of everything you do, including the web sites that you commonly visit, to see if there is some kind of pattern to what is making the wireless card lose its ability to obtain an IP address.

Did you put in the right key for your wep?  That's what happened to me.  Once I put that in, I had no problem

turns out that the problem is caused by SSH Sentinel....

its a software for VPN connections.  one of our clients bought the same laptop as me and when we installed ssh sentinel, his wireless stopped working.

after uninstalling ssh sentinel, wireless works just fine.

thanx for all your ideas........

Oh really?  I am having a problem connecting to our network printer on our network, keeps saying that the vpn could be "blocking" the connection.  Where is this "ssh" located?

it was a program i installed.  it has an icon in the taskbar.  it was also listed in the Add/Remove Programs which is where I removed it from.

the icon in the taskbar is a square with 4 smaller squares in it.  one is blue, three are white.
its called SSH Sentinel.
