Wireless link between laptop and desktop
I have a Studio XPS running Win7 Ultimate 64bit that has a Dell wireless adaptor and a Precision M70 with built-in WiFi running Win7 Professional - can I set up a link between these without a wireless hub/router? If so, is there a walkthrough I can follow?
I already have a wired network peer-to-peer through a SMC switch, so I do not want to use Homegroup.

You'll want to do a Google search on Windows 7 peer to peer networking. Also look into a freeware program called WiPeer.

I have set up a Profile on the XPS and transferred it by USB memory stick to the Precision, I have set both to connect even if the SSID is not broadcast, but it does not appear in the available Wireless Network Connections list from the tray icon.

Well - the network has appeared in the list, but when I try to connect to it I get the message "Windows was unable to connect to this network"
Perhaps someone can tell me if I am trying to do the impossible - I have an office set up in an outbuilding about 15m from my house with a few PCs linked in a peer-to-peer network through an SMC switch which also has a broadband modem connected to provide internet access for all of them. Occasionally I want to work in the house on my laptop and have access to the PCs and the internet.
My XPS has a wireless card (Dell 1505 Draft 802.11n) and the Precision laptop has WiFi (Dell 1470 Dual Band) - surely they should at least be able to talk to each other? If so, can I access the wired network (and the internet) through the XPS?
