WIRELESS, MINI PCI CARD, 1350

Please help,
I have an Inspirion 1150,
It came with the "CARD (CIRCUIT), WIRELESS, MINI PCI CARD, 1350, BROADCOM CORPORATION", with the "Broadcom 440X 10/100 Intergrated Controller" Driver.

Can I get a wireless connection at a "coffee shop" with this as a stand alone, or do I need to get a Wireless 802.11/g card also.

New to wireless, just trying to figure out what I need to get WiFi internet.

Thanks a million.

I believe that driver file (BROADCOM 440 10/100) is for a standard ethernet adapter? If you have the 1350 wireless MINI PCI Card? Then, I think you would need this driver:

Thanks for the reply.

I think that is the driver I have installed.

Still a little fuzzy on this. With this driver installed, with what I believe is an intergrated network card, Will this alone let me connect to a wireless router or will I still have to buy a Wireless G Card???

Thanks,  RICK...

As an Inspiron laptop owner, you probably have both a wireless card and ethernet(wired)adapter installed in it. The wireless card, as seen here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1150/sm/upgrades.htm#1084976

This requires a wireless card driver.

The ethernet adapter is probably, incorporated into the motherboard and is accessed from the port on the back of your laptop. As seen here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1150/en/F7573a01.pdf

This requires a ethernet adapter driver.

The two adapters are two separate pieces of hardware and are not interchangeable, nor are there respective drivers.

Hope that clears things up!

Thanks for the replies.

Couldn't get it to work without buying a wireless G card.

Installed G card, went to "coffee shop", found connection.

Can only get dial-up at house, sure is nice to D/L with the big boys.
